Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Eat your fill of turkey/ham and all the various sides of stuffing you to the size of a Plaguebearer. Then back to the tables of war with you.

Where's the Lion

I sit here looking over all the models I have collected over the years. Orks, Chaos, Daemons, Tyranids, etc.) but none of them burn to the core as much as the loss of my Dark Angels.

Over 10 years ago when I first entered a local gaming store and saw someone playing a friend on a 4x4 table with plastic toys I got hooked to Dark Angels. The story the fluff and everything in their at the time codex Angels of Death was great, and it just improved over the years. I am always a sucker for characters with internal struggle and the Dark Angels chapter was just dripping with it.

As of late though it's like GW has completely forgot about the 1st Legion. Of all their codex for there flag ship army (aka Space Marines) the Dark Angels one is sorely outdated and in need of a new life given to it. I see list after list claiming Dark Angels and there is hardly ever even a hint of green in them. Even more so all the things Dark Angels had that made them "OP" have been taken/stolen/absorbed and made better in other Space Marine variants.

Only all Biker Army - nope
Only all Terminators Army - nope
Plasma Cannon/Plasma tactical squads - nope.

I could go on but the point is. Besides the fluff what makes Dark Angels "special" anymore. Nothing really. Right now they are better as a story chapter then they are a table chapter.

Please. Please GW. Wake up and bring some glory back to the first sons!

Change is always changing

The current list is as follows

Tides of Madness - 1750 pt
HQ
BloodThirster w/ Unholy Might & Blessing of the Blood God
THearald w/ Chariot, Master of Sorc, Bolt & Breath
THearald w/ Chariot, Master of Sorc, Bolt & Breath

Elites
Bloodcrushers x 5
Fiends x 6

Troops
Horrors x 8 w/ Bolt & Changeling
Horrors x 5 w/ Bolt
Horrors x 5 w/ Bolt
Plague Bearers x 5
Plague Bearers x 5

Heavy
Daemon Prince w/ Hide and Wings
Daemon Prince w/ Hide and Wings

I have been contemplating taking out the BT and throwing in 2 Khorne Heralds or a KHerald and a 3 THerald. Contemplated dropping 2 Crushers and seeing if I can tweak in a pack of Bloodletters, but I feel I am stepping to far form my themed list. Just can't think of a good way to theme Bloodletters into a pure Tzeentch'en theme.

Where the Warp meets the Interwebz

So I have recently joined a forum devoted to Chaos Daemons called The Daemonic Legion. It's orginal design was for Daemons in the Warhammer world were they have a weatlh of information. Recently they have dove into the realm of Daemons in Warhammer 40K. The 40K community is small mostly feed over from the Fantasy realm but I am hoping in time it will develop into as big a community as the Fantasy side (most likely about the time 40K Daemons gets a new dex..*shrugs* beggers can't be choosers).

Anyways there was talks about how there was little tactics on the 40k side of the forum, till a user "gibious" put up a thread asking about tactics people use. Always the ice breaker I decided to post a long winded post (as usual) about my 1750 all comers list I have used in the past. Giving some insight to those unfamiliar with Chaos Daemons a chance to see what I see. Check it out, if your a Daemon player, or just one who has seen how the play. Feel free to comment and help out this growing community for future players.

Building a Better Box

I have had some time to get more painting in (so weird seeing my Daemons with color on them, after all the countless games of primer black daemons). Now I just need a better way to take pictures. I have been looking into photo boots and how people take pictures of thier minatures and have learned several tactics that I hope to employee like the photo booth, no direct lighting and turn the flash off. Hope to have some new pics up soon.

Fatecrushers!

Not satisfied with standard crushers for my Tzeentch Daemon themed army I worked on the model some and I am rather pleased with the results.

***Enter the Fatecrushers*** (yes I know the name is used for a Fateweaver crusher list but it just has such a nice ring for the unit)

I took a note from our Chaos Space marine allies and did a blending of a khorne champ riding a juggernaught and gave it a Tzeentch feel. It still bears the Crusher body shaved off any obvious khorne markings, removed the bull head which was replaced with a giant eye of tzeentch. For the rider I wanted to visually carry over the 3+ armor save thier rule set gives them, so I mounted a thousand son marine on top. Now in an effort to make sure i still remained a "daemon" army and not some hybrid blend I didn't do just a regular rubric marine but instead did a possessed 1k son (seeing as thier own rule set marks them as daemonkin) on top. An to bear the apperance of a power weapon/hellblade I gave his arm the mutation that looks like an old powerfist with a blade cracking through giving the blade a turquiose coloring of power. Like I said all in all I am pleased with the model.

Fairoaks Mini Team Tourney

So the local Games Workshop in Fairoaks Mall is holding a teams tourney. 1250 pts per side standard force org required. That being said my friend and I are going in under the Team Name "Special K" and will be running a Wolves/Ravenwing combo. Should be interesting to see how things turn out. The event has even forced to dust off my age old (prior to when the current DA codex came out) Ravenwing and shape them up and add more detailing with some of the (once then) "New" Ravenwing and DA sprues. Will post results after this weekend.

NOVA Open 2010

For those of you who might have been living under a rock, the NOVA open is up and coming this weekend. This should be an interesting year as it was sold out on tournament spots one and a half months in advance. Why you ask?

Ever gone to a tournament and end up with really weird utterly off the wall narrative style games. Games were your army design and play is handicapped by set rules for the scenario. (Ex. All you can deploy is 1 HQ and 1 Troop. No MCs, vehicles, or anything about a point value of 150pts.) The NOVA open has none of that. It prides itself (well noticed by those who participate) in no none sense competitive games. A Tournament designed with one thing in mind. To sort the masses and see who are the best of the best.

Now do ing get me wrong I have been know to enjoy some of the wakey tournament games. These tournament scenarios are designed with fun and freshness in mind. Giving alittle flare or zing to the standard rulebook scenarios we all have played till thier bitter end over and over again. An I will admit many of these "quirky" games can be both fun and entertaining. However it is my belief that they don't belong in a true tournament setting. These are the types of games you would expect at a club night or a in store battle, not a tournament. People come to tournaments to pit thier lists against the best of the best, climbing there way to the top of the charts in hops of reaching gold. Imagine if you will having to go to the Olympics only to find out the pole vaulters have to do thier thing with a 3 foot croc infested moot in the front of the bar. Interesting...yeah. Entertaining..possibly for the audience, but does this increase the competitive champion style nature of a tournament? No..no not really.

Now am I trying to imply that the NOVA Open is the Olympics of Games Workshop table top gaming, No. What it is, is a herald back to a time where tournaments were just that, pure and simple knuckle crunches as you climb to the top of a chart, no gimicks. I can only hope that futher tournament organizers come to a realization that tournaments should be structured for just that. Leave the gimmick games for thier club nights, that or when the advertise thier "tournament" events they do so in a way that people know right out the gate this is not a Competitive Tournament but a Fluff Tournament.

You can read more about it on thier website rules, scenarios and all at...http://novaopen.com/

Sadly Big K did not get his tickets in time, but I will be going to check things out, snap some pics and made a vid or two. Till then, see you on the other side of the table.

Not another 40K blog site...

Yeap, I did it. It's another 40K Blog site (with soon to follow: another 40k Youtube site).

Why? You might ask

Simple. I am not looking to become some sort of Internet celeb leader of all things 40k. Half the time I am completely way off on some of the stuff I think could/should happen. Nor am I some painting professional who wishes to share with the masses his vision of how painting is. I am just a simple man that wanted a venue to share with others a hobby he enjoys. A place to show off my games with friends, my comissions, my own personnal armies and just the random thoughts I have on said 40K as I learn them.

If this blog brings more like minded people together, or even inspires someone else in some way shape or form I will consider it a success. Till then it shall be a repository for the insane ramblings of a gamer mad man.
