TempleCon 2013 Announcement: New Faction - Convergence of Cyriss

So the new faction was announced at TempleCon 2013 and it is to be another Warmachine Faction called the Convergence of Cyriss.   The linked video at the top will show you the preview specifically for them.  So finer points of what you can extract from the video are:

  • When Warjacks (called Vectors) spend focus you can place that when spent allocate the spent focus to other near by Vectors
  • Vectors in a battlegroup share the MAT and RAT of their warcasters
  • Warcasters give something to jacks in battlegroup via their individual Field Marshal Ability. (ex. Arc Node and shield guard)
Lets see.  Knee jerk reaction:

PROs
With the linked Warcaster MAT & RAT your army will change to an extreme over the normal shift of warcaster changing other factions have.  This is actually a double edged sword.
Swapping of focus from one jack to another will lead to warcasters who can camp focus while still running alot of Vectors.
Field Marshall will allow for elements like Arc Nodes to be available no matter what Vectors you take. So your opponent won't be able to remove key elements of your list without removing the list itself.
Easy of painting - As with Necrons in 40k it will be very easy for a player to buy into the models and silver primer them up for immediate table play.
Conversion Potential - with them being robots there will be a high chance to "Add" to the existing model for conversions of mechanical tendrils and other things while remaining still in the conversion rulings of the tournament packet.
Draw of more Sci-fi natured people.  Lets face it some people don't like Steampunk.  This will bridge that gap for many giving them less Steam and more Sci-fi aesthetics.

CONs
Now Warmachine is 7 factions to Hordes 5
Again with the Warcaster shared MAT & RAT there will be the flexibility of changes but there can be some stove piping of models as well.  In part shooty Vectors will not be taken in battlegroups of Warcasters who are not high RAT in nature.
Robot machines feels to far stretched into the realm of Sci-fi for my liking.  I enjoy the steam punk feel. This is just a bit to far.

All in all I think it will have it's place in the game, though I am not sure if I will be in that place.  The robotic elements are extreme for my tastes of a Fantasy setting.  Which is a bit bummer for me as I was looking for a solid Warmachine faction and was hoping the new faction would be something to solidify my interest.  Looks like it's back to the faction Gallery's to keep looking.
