October 2013 - VA - IFL Steamroller Tournament Review

So the Iron Fist Leagues's (IFL) October 2013 Steamroller Tournament has come to an gone, and I must say it was an amazing success.  Here are some of the details of the event that was ran that day:

Tournament Details:
System: Warmachine/Hordes
Point Value: 50pt. 2013 Steamroller
Format: 1hr. Deathclock, 2 List, No Special Characters
Time: 11:30am Registration (First round started at 12:00 noon - Ended about 8pm-ish)
Rounds: There were 17 players on the field. Went 4 rounds (would have been 5 but one dropped mid game)

Our very own Steve Pokallus ran this event as his first tournament as the IFL's resident app-Press Ganger and I must say he did an amazing job running things.  Even after I made it more difficult for him when I forgot to bring the laptop to run the scoring program.  He took it in stride and pulled out some paper and figured the scores by hand.  Yes, you heard me right, between each match he would sit down and pair down teams using the standard Steamroller hierarchy by hand.  Everything was run in a timely manner, needing less then 5 minutes between rounds to get the next round out.  The only waiting people had to do was for others to finish out their clocks.  An he even took time out of running the event to talk to three different people who came up and was interested in the game.  Explaining to them the concept of the game and how it was played.

All in all he is an amazing Press Ganger and he has set the bar for IFL tournaments high, pulling in 17 players for 4 rounds of games.

A Special Thanks goes out to Dark Lance Designs, LLC for providing additional price support in the form of laser cut templates and wreck & scoring markers.  They are a relatively new business in the wargaming scene but they have jumped in with both feet in supporting their local community as well as their customers.  You should really give them a look on their website (http://www.darklancedesigns.com/) for some of there custom designs and templates.  I have done several orders with them and have been nothing but impressed with the quality of their product and the speed at which they get them out to their customers.

I know I for one can't wait till the next Steamroller event that Steve runs, as a good time was definitely had at this one.  I would encourage anyone in the Northern Virginia area who reads this to give it a go next time he runs an event.
