November 2013 - MD - Titan Games & Hobbies Steamroller Tournament Review

Just returning off of a Warmachine/Hordes tournament this past Saturday, and had a great time.  We put a call out and 7 of the Woodbridge crew answered.  Piling into two cars we drove up for an hour and a half to Titan Games & Hobbies in Timonium, Maryland.  The format was pretty standard and with a 16 player field we ended up playing 4 games total to give us a single 4 and 0 player.

The Tournament
System: Warmachine/Hordes Steamroller Tournament
Point Value: 50pt. - 2 List - Divide & Conquer (1) - Deathclock
Where: Titan Games & Hobbies (Lutherville, MD)
Date: Sat, November 23th,  2013
Time: Registration: 10:30 - Start Time: 11:00

It was a long day getting started slightly later then announced and each round having a pair of games go down to both players using their full hour clock (Myself being one of them on two rounds), the night went on till about 8pm.  This would not have been to much of an issue (almost expected) if it was to be a local tournament, but since we were an hour and a half away from home base we were in for a long drive home.  Silver lining on the drive home I got to talk to one of the better players of our group and we discussed my lists and play style and our meta, was a real eye opening experience (mean while Mike and Boyoo were sitting in the back sawing logs).

The results of the tournament were:

Warmachine/Hordes Battle Report #2

Posted up the second Battle Report for Warmachine & Hordes on the Youtube channel:

The idea going forward is trying to get a video up every Friday.  Looking at this video though I can see that the limitations of Windows Movie Maker renders the movie a bit fuzzy.  Definitely need to look into a different tool to do post video production.

IFL 2nd Quarter - High Stakes 40K Tournament and Cook-Out

Spreading the word about my NoVA based gaming groups tournament.  We are hoping to run many events this year and make 2013 a strong year for us.  Not all events will be 40K related as we are a gaming group just getting into Warmachine as well.  If you want to join the conversations you can find us on our forums at http://www.ironfistleague.com/Forums.aspx

Original Post can be found here:

I want to...but I can't

So I took a break from painting for a bit after the Trollblood Scrum Painting Challenge II.  Not a complete break mind you but I was not pressed to sit at the table for a while.  What painting I did get done was just a model here or a model there.  It was a nice break from the day to day push on models.  That being said I have plans to go to the Colonial GT on March 1st.  I was going to put together a DA/IG army for it but after looking at what I have versus what I need I came to the conclusion I don't have the necessary funds for updating my DA, nor the time to get them painted up and ready.  Which leads me to the reason for this post.

For the longest time I have been staving off accepting this notion, but I can no longer participate in Games Workshop purchases.  Now this isn't some statement of protest where I refuse to pay cause it's not right (I have had that feeling for a while).  This is a statement of fact.  GW models have become way to expensive for me to justify buying, even from discount retailers.

IFL Road to NOVA Invitational this weekend

Heading out on Saturday to the Iron Fist League (IFL) Road to NOVA Invitational being hosted at the Game Vault down in Fredricksburg.

When: Sat, June 16, 10:30am – 8:00pm
Where: Fredericksburg, VA
Tournament Type: $10 40K Warhammer - 16 man invitational

Winner of the tournament will get to go on to participate in the IFL Invitational Finals gathered from the various RTTs we are running for a last man standing match.  Winner from the Finals will be getting a invite to the NOVA Invitational.

All that being said I am going to have fun as I have ZERO intentions of participating in the Invitational even if I some how win it.  With the coming of 6th ed and the news that NOVA will be 6th but the Invitational will be 5th I have concluded that I don't need that mental confusion in an already high competition tournament.  By not going to the Invitational I am guaranteeing that when I go to NOVA I can do so with just 6th in mind.

As for this weekends little match up I am actually thinking of dragging out the Chaos Space Marines.  Go back to my grass roots for one last throw down before 6th rolls out and everything is swept away in Tides of Madness (ehhh..see what I did there).

2000pt Local 40K Tournament at Game Vault

So the Iron Fist League (IFL) is running a local 40K tournament down at Game Vault (can't say enough good things about this place, and no they are not paying me to say this), in Fredrickburg, VA this weekend (April 7th, 2012).

Length: 3 Rounds
Size: 2000 Points
Painting: Not Required
Missions: Randomly determined standard rule book missions (I would roll one die for deployment, and objective each round, ignoring duplicate results)
Cost: $25 (100% of entry fees going to you with prizes doled out as store credit)
Format: Of every $25 entry fee, 10 goes into a prize pool split between: Most Victory Points Taken, Least Victory Points Lost, Combined Total. The remaining $15 is separated into 3 $5 "bets" on the outcome of each match. You get $10 for a win, $5 for a draw, and $0 for a loss. This encourages everyone to stick around through the last round as they have a chance at earning some of their money back.

I'm Back!

Back from a long hiatus due to various reasons that I won't go into but hoping to get back into the market of blogging my wargaming experiences again. What has happened while I was away?

- Joined the Iron Fist League (one of the local gaming groups in Northern Virginia).

- Participated in several tournaments (Ard Boys, NoVa Open 2011, and other local events)

- Expanded my Wargaming from the monarch that is Games Workshop to include Warmachine from Privateer Press

- More personnal gaming with my brother (also part of IFL) getting him back into the hobby from 3rd Edition.

- Still no Photo Booth *sad face*

None the less. Much to cover and hope to become more religious in my posting.
